On August 27, 2023 there will again be a commemorative bike tour to places relevant to Nazi robbery in Bremen! Start at 15h at the »Haus des Reichs«, end 18h at the Tiefer.
Many well-known places in Bremen are closely linked to the robbery of the Jewish population without this being publicly known. These include the Weser Stadium as well as the »Aladin« in Hemelingen. Starting from the new memorial at the Tiefer, which commemorates the Europe-wide robbery of the Jewish population with the involvement of Bremen companies, authorities and private individuals, our commemorative cycle tour leads to some of these places and addresses their respective connections to the Nazi robbery.
Not all of the relevant places can be logistically linked to a single cycle tour (so the »Aladin« and the Europahafen are not included this time), others no longer exist. Nevertheless, it will become clear how many places and social groups profited from the plundering of the Jewish population that preceded the mass murder. The cycle tour is not only intended to provide information, but also to raise questions on site, in the sense of a collective brainstorming session, about how we want to deal with the legacy of Nazi injustice, both privately and publicly.
Content Notification: As part of the bike tour, insights into National Socialist structures, documents and newspaper articles will be provided and biographies of Jewish persecution will be discussed. CN: #Antisemitism, #NS ideology, #human contempt, #persecution
On July 1, 2022, the #stolenmemory exhibition was to accompany the start of construction of the memorial at the Tiefer and draw attention to the thematic interfaces of the deprivation in Bremen’s city center. However, the start of construction of the memorial was delayed until December 2022.
Nevertheless, from July 1, 2022, the Bremen public was able to follow the traces of former concentration camp prisoners and their last possessions and their restitution for three weeks.
The thematization of the goods systematically looted during the Nazi era and their restitution is also an important aspect with regard to the memorial in Bremen.
Speaking at the opening of the open-air traveling exhibition were: Evin Oettingshausen and Henning Bleyl (Mahnmal-Initiative), Dietmar Strehl (former Senator for Finance Bremen), Jörn Kreuzer from the #arolsenarchives, Thomas Köcher from the Landeszentrale #politischebildungbremen, Appolinaire Akpene Apetor-Koffi from #Multi-peRSPEKTif
Thanks to everyone who was there and actively supported us!
And thanks to #arolsenarchives for this important exhibition!
